Begin with the end in mind

The founders of Simply Wrapps have always wanted their food to be halal, to cater to the underserved market in Singapore, the Muslims. With this intention, they made their efforts to get halal suppliers for their meat and to make sure they could hire and retain Muslim staff- a requirement and also one of the most difficult criteria to maintain a halal certificate.After stabilising the Muslim staff in each branch, the process to get an approval for a halal certificate from MUIS was quick.

The reason for starting Simply Wrapps

Started by a trio of friends, Vincent Tan, Koh Yong Thye, and another silent partner, have been working in the corporate life and working and travelling abroad for many years. While bonding over their love of food and working in Dubai, they realised that there was a gap in the market for themselves and their Muslim colleagues.”I was a bodybuilder, and I would always take care of what I eat. I would go to supermarkets and choose food like roasted chicken, but the choices are limited, and not very flavourful. Kebabs in Dubai were oily and salty. And food in Indonesia too were always the ‘goreng’ types,” recalled Vincent, referring to the fried food that is commonly found in Indonesia.

Customers can choose from fifty ingredients, prepared fresh every day, and nineteen house dressings for customers to make into a salad or a wrap. So there are more than a million combinations you can have (I calculated, you have 28989675 combinations). For a normal wrap, you can have six regular toppings on top of your romaine lettuce or red and white cabbages, and you can choose between five flavours of wraps.

Chef’s Creations for the fickle-minded

If you are too fickle and have no time to even think of what choices to put in your wraps or bowls, there are fifteen Chef’s Creations, inspired by Vincent and Yong Thye’s travels with catchy names. For example, Great Wall has toppings like roast beef, broccoli, celery, capsicum, and mushroom, while Arabian Paradise’s toppings include falafel, sundried tomatoes, capsicum, olives, cucumber, and onion. Five vegetarian combinations are also available on the menu including a very interesting Nutty Fruity combination which has toppings like almonds, grapes, mango, apple, orange, strawberry and sunflower seed.The best part, all of them are under 500 KiloCalories, and have been given the ‘Healthier Options’ choice by Health Promotion Board.

Healthy but food must be served properly

Everything is made fresh and in a way that delivers the flavours well. The juices are slow-juiced and combinations are thought out properly.”I’m a coffee lover and so I insist that our coffee has two shot of expressos,” said Vincent Tan, one of the directors of Simply Wrapp.There are also breakfast menu items like quesadillas.
