If you’re reading this you’re probably interested in food AND fashion. We’re humans, we can like both. And if you’re interested in modest fashion, you’re probably interested in attending Singapore Modest Fashion Weekend this 14-16 April 2017 at Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands.
With planned appearances by international tastemakers and a designer line-up boasting respected names from Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia, Singapore Modest Fashion Weekend (SMFW) 2017 has positioned itself as one of the biggest events to look forward to this year. Expect to see the fashion labels of Nora Danish, Dynas Mokhtar, Sazzy Falak, Syomiziwa Gupta, Naelofar Hijab, Ziana Zain and more, and if you’re lucky you might get a glimpse of them!
Modest fashion has been all the rage lately as more and more hijabis step out to be more confident in showing their modesty. While modesty is not limited to fashion which includes the hijab, a large part of the modest movement does include that.
Although the venue is amazing, Marina Bay Sands is not known as a haven for halal food for Muslims who are at the forefront of the modest fashion movement. We did the asking for you and found out that there will be no food sold at the event itself, but you can bring in food. A lucky coincidence too that Art Box will be there that weekend, as most of the readers we polled would buy their food at Esplanade Xchange or even all the way at Marina Square!
We hope this will be a useful guide for you attending the event this weekend!
If you’re looking to sit down in a proper restaurant while having your meal…
1. Consider something that fills you up just enough- The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Beanstro, or just Beanstro
You might miss it while walking the long stretch of designer shops so do look out for this Rain Oculus. You can choose to seat anywhere around this fountain, but if you want to have a serious discussion with the friend you’re dining with, I recommend that you choose a seat inside. The view outside may be nice but when the waterfall is activated the roaring sound of 22,000 liters of water pouring per minute from two stories above, just deafens your conversation!The Beanstro has pastas and sandwiches, salads, quiches, buffalo wings and of course, their signature ice blended drinks and cakes, and is halal-certified by MUIS. We recommend their pastas.

2. For something that can last through the day- 1983 A Taste of Nanyang
If you are looking for something more local, you can head here! They have Nanyang Coffee, Traditional Bun Set, Nasi Lemak, Hainan Chicken Rice, Nasi Padang and Thai Cuisine, and is halal-certified by MUIS.

Other than that, there are several stalls at the Artbox fair which is open that weekend, but you would need to sit around outside the Marina Bay Sands itself.
3. For when you need a small sugar rush to treat yourself- D’elish treats
A dessert bakery with a shop at East Village. All of the bakes are lovingly homemade in small batches to ensure perfection to their taste, look and flavour. Quality ingredients used make each bite into the cupcakes an almost sinful one!
D’elish Treats is located at booth #9 between area 1 & 2, and is Muslim-owned.
4. For desserts that look out of this world- Sinseh The Grocery
Instagrammable, trendy, pretty, experimental, and most of all, halal. Sinseh The Grocery is Muslim-owned.

5. For hydration after walking a lot, trying to find the perfect raya outfit- CocolocoSG
CocolocoSG is one of the drinks that you can choose to accompany your meal when you order with GRAIN (halal-certified food delivery service). It is one of the closest and freshest coconut drink you can have other than drinking the water right out of the coconut, but when you’re attending a fashion weekend you can’t be carrying a coconut around can you. This will do.
The stalls below are selling mainly products made from fruits which we think has a doubt-free halal status, but in case of doubt, do ask the stall owners too!

Superfood in a colourful bowl.
