In our latest bid to save our fellow brethren from hunger pangs and help them survive their grueling work hours, we have ventured deep into the concrete jungle of Singapore. We have braved the crushing crowds at peak periods. We have traversed to the ends of the island and gotten lost time and again. Got sidetracked by a baby or two but we are finally here!Introducing our newest and shiniest recruits for the month of October, here are the halal places we have sacrificed our tastebuds and the dreams of a perfect body for!
That is the question.
1. UYI Savoury Squids
uyi-large-crispy-squid
First on our roll call is UYI Savoury Squids! If you are like me and you have a tendency to munch at work (even when you’re not hungry), this, my friend is the solution. Instead of guilt tripping yourself over the 10 bags of candies you accidentally ate through, here’s a giant squid. No, like, literally.
Don’t mind me. I’m just munching on a squid the size of my face.

Dear Squidward, you’re technically not a squid but an octopus though… (Source)
UYI’s squids are chewy. They are loaded with flavour. Most importantly, this is a snack you can chew on for days… (ok, I’m exaggerating but you get my drift). It’s only available at Bugis Junction for now, so make sure to slot in your squid-stocking days into your schedule, especially between all those meetings.

3. Icebox Cafe SG
Following the Hallyu wave, I am not ashamed to admit that I am hooked on Korean variety shows and dramas. One thing to note, if you’re watching or going to watch a Korean variety show, more likely than not you are about to get really, really hungry.
Because these people are eating ALL. THE. TIME.
The thing is, you are highly likely to come across them slurping on Patbingsu – Korean Ice Kacang – eventually and you’ll be thinking, “I need that.” And then you come to realise that “shoot, there’s no halal one in Singapore…”

Well, you’re wrong! It exists! Ice Box Cafe actually has halal bingsu *cue tears of joy*.So if you’re craving for a taste of that cold, refreshing goodness, all is not lost because we’ve got it covered. This cafe not only serve these melt-in-your-mouth ice mountain of awesomeness, it also serves monstrous, comically-named milkshakes for your drinking pleasure. Naughty Cookie Butter shake anyone?

Continuing my Hallyu-waved tangent, I have realised that not only do they make the desserts look good. They even manage to make the greens look good too.

Seriously, have you ever seen kids who genuinely love love vegetables the way Korean kids seem to. The kids on Return of Superman make eating vegetables look like its the yummiest thing on Earth!
Would you look at that…(Source)

I keep thinking I don’t remember vegetables tasting that fabulous to me when I was three. But then again, Hungry Bazterdz’s mouthwatering savoury sandwiches like their Salmon Teriyaki sandwich almost had me believing that I do like vegetables. What is that? That’s one thick slab of fresh salmon over a bed of greens with guacamole sauce and teriyaki sauce. Say what? I know, I know. It took me sometime to wrap my head around it and that was after I ate it.

After all that clean eating (lol what am I saying, I know it’s just one sandwich…I’m kidding guys. I know it takes more to be healthy), we are all set for another round of indulgence once more.Apparently two, if you tell me that your desserts are sinless. Hold up! Now, you’re just messing with me. No guys, I really mean it.The ladies at Simply Sinless Creams are dedicated at producing bakes with reduced butter and healthier versions. God bless their souls. So that’s one cupcake for me and another cupcake for…ME. We interviewed them for the full story.
