Since the start of the new year, we had to bid goodbye to Hyde & Co. and The Lab. Most recently, Wilder, helmed by one of the few female chefs and restaurant owner Chef Azurah, announced on its Instagram profile of their last day of service happening on 28 January 2018.
A Cafe with a Mission to bring people together
What will we miss about Wilder? Certainly their food. Their pulled beef burger called Da Mofo, their amazingly handmade gnocchi, and their Momma’s Lasagne inspired by Azura’s mum has been a favorite amongst many cafe goers.
Wilder has also became a communal and socially conscious space. They boldly told their cafe-goers that they do not provide Wifi in their cafe- something which is rare in this Kampong Glam area. They also invited talented local acoustic performers to grace their cafe on Friday and Saturday nights. The cafe also became an event venue for charity bake sales. Additionally, in a bid to move towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle, Wilder has stopped providing with plastic straws to its customers since last August.
Closing Specials
Going out with a bang, Azurah has invited several familar names in the halal scene, to do a takeover of her kitchen.
In December, they invited Hungry Bazterdz who previously opened a cafe at The Arcade in the heart of the CBD area of Singapore, to sell their famous open-face sandwiches.
This month, they will be collaborating with Chef Bob on 26 January to whip up some “unpretentious rustic grubs”.
They will also host Brunch Bandits by Nithiya to cook up some Ethiopian food on 28 January 2018. Nithiya is a Cultural Anthropologist who hosts a series of private dining club sessions that explore culture through fine food. There will be two seatings with limited seats. The first seating is from 12-1.30pm, and the second seating will be from 2pm-3.30pm.
